Beautiful androgeny children’s winter fashion shoot from photographer Ian Derry and stylist Kate Van Der Hage
December 21, 2011
This is a stunning set of pictures from a shoot by celebrity and kids fashion photographer Ian Derry and children’s fashion stylist Kate Van Der Hage. The model is only 7 years old but she has an amazing maturity and I love the fact that she is a tomboy, its so rare to find short haired models amongst younger girls, they all seem to have hair that tumbles to their shoulder blades in their bid to be Disney princesses, bring on the bob haircut I say.
Ian Derry has worked with many of the world’s top celebrities which is probably why he has the patience to work with children as well, being given 15 minutes in all varieties of light conditions to get a stunning shot is not as easy as you might think, and having to grab that seconds worth of perfect shot with children is very similar. See some of Ian’s celebrity work at his site here.
Both Kate and Ian are represented at one of the UK’s top agencies Era Management, the model is from Urban Angels agency. The clothes are from Burberry, Hucklebones, Hackett, Imps and Elfs, Kicokids and Scotch Shrunk.

Big designer label launches in kids fashion for 2011, will we see as many in 2012?
December 19, 2011
2011 saw a big hello to designer children’s wear launches from huge branded names such as Gucci, Fendi, Stella McCartney, Lanvin, and Marni.
I am now looking forward to seeing launches in 2012 from Versace, Diane Von Furstenberg for GapKids and Oscar De La Renta to hit the stores in spring. The Oscar collection is overseen by Catherine Monteiro de Barros, the founder and designer of Lisbon-based luxury children’s brand Papo d’Anjo which recently closed. And even as I posted news has come in that Roger Vivier is planning a kids line of shoes to hit stores in Mid March, called Jeune Fille with proceeds to go to charities.
Plus an expanded Marni line from the new licensee Spazio Sei who also produce Miss Blumarine will be shown at Pitti Bimbo in January for winter 2012. Rumours are also flying around about Chanel but nothing concrete there yet, so who else is left?
It seems that any designer big brand now wants a children’s fashion range and at a time when finances are stretched to say the least for most of the western world it can only mean that they see expansion into India and the Far East as the next big market for kids designer fashion. Russia and the Arab states are also expanding markets with more buyers from stores there seen in Italy.
Many companies are talking about South Korea with its current baby boom as fertile territory and it will be interesting to see where the buyers are coming from at the round of trade shows about to start in January in Europe kicking off with Kleine Fabriek on 15th and 16th of January.
Here is a selection of what the big boys in kidswear have lined up for next spring.
And the Pop up shop for the Petite Lanvin launch in New York in December

Mini-Me, Summer 2012 trend for children’s fashion from top designers to the chainstores.
December 16, 2011
I have never seen so many Mini-Me versions in kids fashion as I have for the coming summer season. From the top designers down, there are a huge amount of almost exact replica clothing items coming out.
I noticed in the winter collections from Stella McCartney and Chloe quite a few of these items but next year its gone bonkers!
Burberry, Tata Naka, Juicy Couture, Milly and Boden are featured here but also look out for more Chloe Mini-Me’s, Missoni, D&G and of course the Lanvin dresses that even have matching dolls too, Mini-mini-Me!

Finger in the Nose and Vuarnet join forces for kids cool sunglasses for summer 2012
December 15, 2011
There are a few kids brands of sunglasses that factor in a cool element but not so many, most tend to think, ahh kids, lets go pink and sparkly….
This new collaboration between funky children’s fashion label Finger in the Nose and top end sunglasses and ski specialist manufacturer Vuarnet now gives an extra choice in the kids market with great quality lenses and frames.
Available in two base styles with variations and two sizes (4-8yrs and 8-12yrs) and retailing at around £100 they are not a cheap buy but should last well, and you can trust the protection they will give to sensitive young eyes.

For last minute Christmas presents dash to Few and Far in Kensington it’s a kids and adults treasure chest
December 14, 2011
Run by the formidable Priscilla Carluccio, Few and Far has the most eclectic mix of gifts in London at this time of year. There is a huge selection of toys and ethnic finds from around the globe and some rather interesting unique Art pieces too along with her signature loose linen and wool forever cool and wearable clothing finds. A corner of the store forms a Christmas Bazaar while another area hosts the children’s toys.
On a corner site near the V&A Museum in South Kensington, the shop faces Skandium, also a useful place for a last minute gifts and with a visit to those three stores that’s the Christmas shop done, no fuss at all really!

Christmas wreaths for 2011 are strong on the classic red and green this season with gold a close second.
December 13, 2011
I love seeing all the Christmas wreaths come out in December and in my part of town there are a lot of very beautiful glass panels in some of the front doors, to then add a wreath makes a very captivating combination. This year the holly, pine, berry, classic red and green wreath is very popular but I found a few fun new styles around too.
Lastly I managed to put the baubles for my magnolia tree up over the weekend, they catch the sun wonderfully and reflect a brilliant birds eye view of the house. I am very happy with my Petersham Nursery purchase.
Gapkids spring 2012 great photoprint floral dresses for girls
December 12, 2011
Gapkids for boys looks pretty much same as, same as, but the girls collection for spring features some very strong vibrant floral photoprint dresses that I can see flying out of the kids stores.
There are also some very cutesy illustrative T-shirts and a pretty Parisian retro 1950’s style illustrated border dress that is too sweet, and a very pretty toddler sized cream fan pleated party dress.

A sneak preview today from the Marie-Chantal kids fashion look for summer 2012. The strength in this collection comes from the beautiful girls dresses, perfect for summer parties and events in silk chiffon with little cap sleeves and layered skirts.
The rest of the collection is chic and with a taste for the classic, particularly for boys with tailored suits, slipover vests and checked shirts or nautical themes.
High summer is also catered for with madras plaids and sprigged florals. The styles suit the Chelsea tastes of her boutique and will appeal to the classic customer everywhere.

Petersham Nurseries Christmas baubles and decorations for Xmas 2011
December 8, 2011
I have a tree outside my house this year to decorate for the first time ever and I knew exactly what I wanted for it, some of Petersham Nurseries giant Christmas baubles.
I love Petersham Nurseries at Christmas, its not that they go over the top, more that its just such an unusual atmosphere, especially if you are lucky enough to get a sunny crisp winter’s day just like today’s was. In one Victorian greenhouse there were spring flowers mixed with Christmas bauble decorations and in the shop area the restaurant beyond was packed, on a weekday luncheon too!
New items here that I loved were the lead crystal lusters, they are really beautiful and the light shimmers and splits in to rainbows as it passes through. originating in Victorian times, as the notice explains they were affectionately known as “Alberts” named after Queen Victoria’s husband, they are all at least 100 years old.
I bought five big silver baubles for my Magnolia tree but I am waiting to hang them as strong winds are due across the country tomorrow.
