One of the things I love most about the smaller fashion fairs such as CPH Kids, Playtime and Bubble is the chance to meet some of the designer names behind top kids fashion labels.
Sometimes they will be too busy writing an order and then I just leave them to it but other times they are waiting for the next customer and happy to chat away. CPH Kids is great for this as many of the brands don’t yet visit any of the other European fairs. The fair itself is set in the pleasant area of the old Carlsberg brewery which has extraordinary buildings and some really sweet workers houses around it and is airy and spacious with open stands so its easy to see what is on offer.
Trends this year as a whole have been a little lacking apart from a swing towards tailoring and I am sure buyers are playing pretty safe too but there are still inspiring items.
Illustrative prints have overtaken photo images for T-shirts and dresses, last winters weather has prompted a rash of well wrapped up clothing, chunky knits, padded jackets, hats and scarves are in abundance, skirts are generally full in volume still, as are baggy jodphur style trousers but jeans remain skinny cut on the whole for both boys and girls.
Retro inspiration is still fixed in the 70’s and 80’s or harks back to Victorian times with updated fabrics and Scandinavian prints a la Marimekko are as popular as ever with the key brands such as Smafolk and Katvig.
