After an exhaustive look at all the trade shows for next summer I have now done a round up of some of the coolest footwear I found.
Metallic leathers are still very popular and still look fresh, new finishes are basket weaves and stamped suedes, fringed and bow decorations and studded leathers and suedes. Converse and decorated thong styles are also very popular but have lost the freshness of last year. Punched, spotted, patent and quilted finishes often used for ballet pumps feel fresher for next summer.
Chunky ankle straps and open toe boots are also strong again.
Boys have a choice of rubber soled chunky biker style boots, converse styles in many print and colour variations, leather thongs or super smart laced bi-colour trad styles.

OK, so I am finding this difficult because all I want to talk about is colour, the boldness of it and the lack of it, because you see mostly in Italy there is either colour and lots of it, vibrant, zinging joyful, heart lifting colour.
Or there is none, white, cream, neutral tans, flesh tones and sort of nothingness. And that is really all there is to say about trends, sure there are certain shapes, maxi lengths have all but disappeared but jumpsuits seem to have caught on, shorts are blousy and bloomerish or micro short, leggings are all over the place layered under tunics or dresses, cut off at the calf and in lace, stripes, floral prints and so on.
The rest looks just like it did 2 years ago, or 3. Ruffles are everywhere, trousers legs are mainly straight with a nod to flares at Miss Grant, skirt lengths are on the knee or just above and gathered for volume. Dresses look newest in an A line shift shape.
So below I have gathered some of my favorite things from Pitti Bimbo, its all on trend because it seems everything is these days, just a few bits are more on trend than others though! Catwalk round up tomorrow.

Camel and grey were key colours for next winter’s kids fashion shown in Italy and the family label Il Gufo are masters at the beautifully made classic Italian style that such stripped back tones require. key items were the camel wool coats for girls and boys and the knitted grey cape top with soft tulle skirts.

The modern state of Italy as we know it was formed 150 years ago and today is a public holiday in Italy for celebration.
Italians are fantastic at many aspects of design including children’s fashion and hold the most extensive and visited kids fashion trade fair twice a year in Florence at Pitti Bimbo.
So, for today a little celebration of the best of summer 2011 from the best Italian children’s fashion labels.

One of the strong trend themes coming out of the recent Pitti Bimbo trade fair in Florence for autumn and winter 2011 kidswear was the strength of wool tailored styles in both camel and grey tones.
From Crombie style coats for both boys and girls to softer duffles and cape styles almost every show had a piece for children on the catwalks, shown here are Fendi Kids, Silvian Heach and Blauer Junior.

Children’s fashion trends for autumn/winter 2010
July 16, 2010
The new season’s clothes will soon be in store so what to buy for your offspring this year?
Key looks to spot – Grungy mixed up styles with lots of badges, chain decorations and ragged edges see the Monnalisa pictures below, also mixes of textures, velvets with tweed, chunky wool knits with silk skirts and plenty of plaid and tartan checks in all styles.
Red was a very strong colour, expect to see that everywhere along with shades of grey, navy and deep green and animal prints are still popular for those with more bling tastes. Finally layering with leggings was at every label and every press show, metallic leggings are a strong party look and will zap up any old tutu you have around for instant winter 2010 style.

Nothing has been more on trend at this years show than the trilby hat in all varieties of straw and printed fabric both for boys and girls.
Some other top trends at Pitti Bimbo for next summer are Converse style laced boots, twisted long cotton checked scarves, wide brimmed straw hats, backpacks and soft fabric bags.

The opening day of Pitti Bimbo 71 for children’s fashion spring/summer 2011 today.
It will be really busy today so I may not get much posting done during the fair but there will be lots to come after. New names including Fendi and Gucci to look out for as well as key favorites such as Monnalisa and Miss Blumarine will show.
Here is a taster, some previews from some of my favorites at the exhibition Roberto Cavalli Angels and Devils, Simonetta and Il Gufo.

Pitti Bimbo 70 – Il Gufo previews winter 2010 children’s collection
January 28, 2010
In a cavernous Art Gallery on the outskirts of Florence on Thursday 21st January late into the evening Il Gufo showed their collection for autumn/winter 2010/2011.
With their signature tailoring layered under padded jackets and sweet cabled and puff sleeved knitted dresses this was a collection that followed true to the Il Gufo refined style.
Colours had a subdued tone with heather tones of pink and purple, the ever popular grey and brown and green country tones.
Luckily as we were all ravenous afterwards we were treated to an Italian special buffet which they always do so well in Florence, feeding hundreds of people with delicious food the quality of a restaurant meal and you always think, why isn’t mass catering as good as this in the UK!

Monnalisa – snap report from Pitti Bimbo 70 for a/w 2010
January 23, 2010
More from the Monnalisa and Il Gufo on Thursday night in Florence.
Highlight trends for next winter are a development of last years with lots of emphasis on volume in skirts and puffy gathered coats and dresses, lots of layering, armlets and leggings, lots of decoration and fussy neckline details with ruffles, brooches and draped scarves.
Fabric favorites are tweeds in bold and dogtooth checks, tartans, herringbone, patchwork wools, rich shiny velvets, wool lace, suede and still shiny nylon fpr padded jackets.
Giant bows, fur collars and ribbon ties are favorite decorations.
